 I read recently that Colchester Castle was a "dupe" for the White Tower at the Tower of London. Apparently "dupe" is a shortening of the word duplicate, but usually used when exact copies of negatives or transparencies or other exact replicas of something are made. Dupe therefore means exact copy or so I was being led to believe. But, I thought, anyone familiar with the two buildings Colchester Castle as is now looks and the White Tower today, would realise they are nothing like each other now, although they may have been when first completed. I misunderstood the article because I thought "dupe" meant "fake" or "fool"; something which turns up in comic books; an insult, which tells someone that they've been "duped"." Ha ha! The joke's on you Dennis the Menace, you've been had, you dupe! Ha Ha!".  Now I ask, should I be angry with myself for not realising what it meant in the context I read it? Or, should...
